Information
Spring has arrived!

Remember, there are no short cuts to becoming a better reader. Students must read outside of the classroom to achieve a high measure of success--at least 20 minutes per evening.

Strategies for improving reading comrehension will be practiced and applied to various texts including short stories, practice TAKS passages, novels. Reading objectives such as main idea, vocabulary, cause/effect, problem/solution, sequencing, inferencing, etc. will be identified and explored.

8th grade--We will begin a career research project, adding outlining, creating a bibliography and making notecards to our research skills.

7th grade---We are beginning the Junior Great Books series, a method of study which focuses on interpretive questioning--"shared inquiry." We are reading John Steinbeck's The Red Pony, a classic novel and will finish our novel reading with another classic, Jack London's Call of the Wild.

PLEASE NOTE: Accelerated Reader: Each student needs to earn a minimum of 10 new AR points every 6-week period regardless of how many points were earned during previous 6-week periods. This is not difficult to accomplish when students discipline themselves to read at home in addition to reading during time devoted to silent sustained reading (SSR)in class. Also, all novels assigned for class study are AR books.
