As a member of the Lee High School Orchestra, each student has the opportunity to represent our school and our city at various performances and contests. Traditionally the orchestra plans a major trip in the spring to a contest. This is also a fun trip with activities planned for the students to enjoy. It is a very important part of the year, as students have worked very hard and deserve some time being together as well as have an opportunity to perform.
Because it is a performance trip, it is vital that every student participate as each member is important to the success of the group.
MISD does not have a budget to assist us on this trip; however, students are allowed to miss class time for the trip. In August, plans are made, a budget set, and a student trip cost determined. The Fiance Committee compiles a yearly operation budget for the Booster Club which includes money needed for clinicians, concert programs, travel expenses, private lesson scholarships, awards, etc. This budget is approved by the membership of the Executive Board in August. A student assessment amount is set to cover not only the trip cost but a portion of the operating budget. |

In August, a calendar of fund-raising opportunities is set to allow the students to raise a portion or all of this amount. All students have equal opportunities to raise their money.
In addition, a monthly payment schedule is set. Whether students are earning their assessments or making payments, it is extremely important that all students remain current. Expenses are incurred for all year from August to May, so there must be a cash flow for obligations to be met. Equally important is preventing students from the financial bind that occurs in March and April when students owe large sums of money on this assessment goal. This should never occur.
We ask all parents to visit with their student and agree together how this financial goal will be met. Reminder/progress cards/newsletters will be sent peridically to update progress. The address to mail your payment will be included. Any time students turn in money, they will receive a receipt. Record these receipts and any payment you make so you can track your progress during the year. |

Students in the Lee High School Orchestra accept more responsibility than students who are uninvolved. They have opportunity to learn the importance of team work, folowing directions, handling responsibility, pride in accomplishments and hard work. Orchestra students are not only talented young people but some of the nicest, most well-behaved kids around. |
