Welcome to 8th Grade Computer Keyboarding and Integration!

2007-2008 School Year
Instructor: Jo Hayes
new year

Mrs. Hayes has been teaching computer literacy for MISD since 1985. Developed in 1998, computer integration was designed to rotate eighth grade students through the computer lab as a part of their core class curriculum.

This year we are pleased to announce the addition of a new computer keyboarding elective. Students will receive ½ of a high school elective credit by completing a semester of keyboarding. Carrer connections is its companion course. Students will take their second semester elective in Career Connections to receive another ½ credit. I am very pleased to be a part of this innovative program to help students be successful in high school.

Computer literacy projects, are designed in coordination with the core teachers, to introduce students to the use of computer applications. Students are expected to produce projects at school through the use of word processing, database, spreadsheets, Internet research, multimedia presentations, Internet research and/or graphic organizers.

Projects are designed to enhance curriculum by providing students with the computer skills necessary for success. Rubrics for grading and assessing student work and completion dates are set by the classroom teacher with my input. If work is not completed in the regularly scheduled lab time, tutorials are available in both computer labs in the mornings before the first bell.

The computer lab operates on a flexible schedule in order to provide students with a maximum amount of computer exposure.
