Speech and Debate
Speech classes are offered at all junior high, freshman and high school campuses. Besides the required high school credit in "Communications Applications," tournament classes for serious speech competitors include debate, oral interpretation and extemporaneous speaking.
Both MISD high schools boast highly successful speech teams with students qualifying each year through the Texas Forensic Association tournament process for the TFA State Meet in the Spring. Both schools have historically qualified debaters, speakers and congressman to the National Forensic League tournament held in June in a major US city, which in the past have included Wichita, Kansas, Portland, Oregon, Atlanta, Georgia, Charlotte, North Carolina, Salt Lake City, Utah and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The 2008 NFL National Tournament will be held in Las Vegas, Nevada.
