All elementary students in MISD receive instruction in music and art in grades K-6. Orchestral instruction in strings is an option for sixth graders as well.

Sixth graders who study at the Carver Center two days a week are part of the "Carver Singers," who perform annually in February.

Outreach is important in MISD Arts Education. Many local and touring groups perform for students throughout the year.
~ Fifth graders and eighth graders go to the Midland Community Theatre for Pickwick Players productions.
~ Sixth graders attend the Midland-Odessa Symphony and Chorale concerts.
~ Second and third graders are the audience for Midland Festival Ballet.
~ Kindergarten and first graders this year will enjoy touring productions from the Houston Opera and Texas Tech Opera Theatre.
~ Fourth graders will participate in the Christmas choral programs at both Lee and Midland High Schools.
~ The symphony's ensembles, Lone Star Brass, West Texas Winds and Strings of the West travel to all campuses in the spring.

One of the neatest things about visiting the Midland ISD Administration Building is the opportunity to view a revolving exhibit of student artwork. All campuses participate, so there are a variety of pieces from Kindergarten yarn drawings to award-winning paintings from our secondary schools. Stop by to visit us or just wander around the lobby to see what is going on in our art classes here in MISD.

On September 24, 2007, The Juggernaut Jug Band from Louisville, Kentucky, played a concert at Carver Center. The event was an "encore" performance of the group's evening concert sponsored by Community Concerts of Midland. Old-fashioned jug band music was made by the members of the band AND students at Carver as they strummed washboards, banged on tin cans and blew kazoos. It was not your usual school assembly, but Carver is not your usual school.
