MISD Central Office Art Displays Click Here One of the neatest things about visiting the Midland ISD Administration Building is the opportunity to view a revolving exhibit of student artwork. All campuses participate, so there are a variety of pieces from Kindergarten yarn drawings to award-winning paintings from our secondary schools. Stop by to visit us or just wander around the lobby to see what is going on in our art classes here in MISD. |

San Jacinto Art Show Click Here San Jacinto Junior High hosted their art show in May, 2007. There were displays of sculpture, painting, drawing and collage. Parents and friends were invited to a reception and many attended what ended up being a big party to celebrate the arts in MISD. Our thanks to Adriana Dominguez who made it all happen. |

"The Grey Area" Student Art in Black & White Click Here Gunter Grass, a German poet, novelist, playwright, sculptor and printmaker, made the following comment, "Art is accusation, expression, passion. Art is a fight to the finish between black charcoal and white paper." It's back to basics. With charcoal, pencils, pen and ink, Midland County art students explore the endless possibilities of a world that really can be "black and white." |

Cross Cultures -- "Abstractions" Click Here "Abstract Art" is difficult to define, difficult to recognize and difficult to execute. Picasso said, "There is no abstract art. You must start with something. Afterward you can remove all traces of reality." Here are examples of the process from students in Midland, Texas, and Nakatsugawa City in Japan. The points of view are certainly different, but the images are remarkably similar. We see in these students' work that we do, indeed, live in a global community. Even abstract concepts from a culture far removed from our own seem somehow familiar. |
