About Ms. Garza:
|
Ms. Sylvia Garza is currently the Assistant Superintendent for Teaching and Learning for Midland Independent School District. Ms. Garza has been in the field of education for over 23 years. She earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Texas-El Paso and her Advanced Degrees from Texas Woman’s University. She is originally from El Paso, Texas but has called the Rio Grande Valley and San Antonio her home until moving to San Marcos.
Ms. Garza has served as an elementary and secondary school teacher as well as elementary and middle school principal. Additionally, Ms. Garza served as a principal appraiser for the San Antonio Independent School District with 20 schools under her charge. She has served as a Director of Bilingual Education, Director of Elementary Programs, Director of Secondary Education, Assistant Superintendent for Instructional Services at Clint Independent School District and Assistant Superintendent for Teaching & Learning at San Marcos Consolidated Independent School District.
Ms. Garza has served as a school board trustee and as Board President for the Harlingen Consolidated Independent School District. While residing in south Texas, Ms. Garza served as Vice-President for Marketing and Educational Programs for Metro Systems Engineering and on the Executive Committee of the Chamber of Commerce. Additionally, Ms. Garza was a member of the Advisory Council for the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and served the Harlingen Leadership initiative recruiting young Hispanic talent for leadership development for city government.
Ms. Garza has two daughters, Ana Lisa Garza and Lilia Cristina Talamantez who reside in San Antonio. Her two grandchildren are two year old Julianne and Christian Anthony born March 22, 2004.
