Greetings and welcome to the West Early Childhood Center Web page! ¡Bienvenidos! My name is Patricia J. Stevens. I have been the Principal at West for the past twelve years and the Midland ISD Head Start Director since 1996. I have a degree in Elementary Education from Michigan State University (1969), a Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education from UTPB (1981) and Certification in Mid-Management & Supervision from UTPB (1992). I strongly believe in the value of quality early learning experiences for all children and especially for the children who are served at the West campus… those children who are living in poverty or who do not speak English.
I feel that Midland ISD’s early childhood programs are the foundation for student success in kindergarten and beyond. Research indicates that young children who have been exposed to a high quality preschool experience typically do better in school than those children who have not participated in preschool. The West Early Childhood staff in conjunction with the teaching staff at the Bunche Early Childhood Center have worked to see that Midland ISD’s youngest students are given opportunities and experiences that will directly support their success in kindergarten.
