Partners for Excellence (PFE) serves gifted and talented students in Midland ISD by providing support for parents and teachers of gifted children in Kindergarten through twelfth grade. We are a non-profit organization affiliated with the Texas Association for the Gifted and Talented (TAGT), and we raise funds to provide scholarships for students and award grants to excellent teachers. Whether you have a child in Project Think, Quest, at GEM, or in Enhanced Academic Services at the secondary level, you are invited to partner with your child’s teachers and help support gifted education. You can join TAGT, or Partners for Excellence; you can volunteer your time to help at a PFE fundraiser; you can attend the G/T Parent Conference held this year in February in Odessa; you can even check out books from the parent resource library at Carver Center. But whatever you do, enjoy the gift that has been given to you – your gifted child.

PARTNERS FOR EXCELLENCE SCHOLARSHIPS Partners for Excellence strives to provide opportunities for gifted students from kindergarten through 12th grade. Every year PFE awards the Ellabeth Jeffreys Memorial scholarship in the amount of $1000 to the most outstanding seniors from each of the high schools in Midland that have been a part of G/T programs at MISD. These students are chosen on their outstanding achievement on PSAT, SAT, cumulative GPA, class rank, community service, achievement in all G/T classes and performance on AP exams and concurrent courses.

PARTNERS FOR EXCELLENCE G/T GRANTS PFE also awards grants to MISD G/T teachers that submit a request to improve education for the gifted and talented students in the Midland Independent School District. The grant mission is to promote and advocate programs that provide for the unique social, emotional, intellectual and academic needs of gifted and talented students and their families in the Midland Independent School School. |
PSAT and SAT Tutorials Preparing Your G/T Students for College Each year Duke University in North Carolina identifies students who score exceptionally well on the standardized achievement test given in their state. You can check out their website at: www.tip.duke.edu/ These students are invited to join the Duke Talent Identification Program which offers newsletters for kids, parent tips, college information, and a chance to help high ability students score well on college entrance exams. Seventh graders in the Duke program are invited to take the SAT test. This early testing experience is invaluable in helping students gain experience with the SAT before they actually take the test as sophomores or juniors. Seventh graders who score well on the test are also invited to a special recognition ceremony in Austin.
Partners for Excellence offers a tutorial for students that are invited to take the SAT. The tutorial session meets once a week for six weeks and students work with a math tutor and an English tutor.
Partners for Excellence is also offering a tutorial for students who plan to take the pSAT exam offered in October 2006. The tutorial sessions will be held at the Advanced Technology Center on Cuthbert drive on Saturday, September 23 and 30, and October 7 and 10. Students may choose from a morning session (9:00 AM to noon) or an afternoon session (1 PM to 4PM) and will spend time with an English tutor and a Math tutor. The cost for the session is $120.00. For more information, please call 697-6935.
