Abell Junior High School was one of the schools ranked in the top 547 in the state by Texas Monthly magazine. There are 1,034 independent school districts and some 8,000 schools in Texas.
The rankings were determined by the National Center for Educational Accountability, a research arm of the University of Texas at Austin. The organization takes into account how students do in reading, writing, math, science and social studies, along with the demographics of the student body over a three-year period, according to the magazine Web site. The story is in the December issue of the Texas Monthly.
The magazine previously ranked schools in November of 1996, November 2001 and November 2002. "We are very, very pleased and honored that three of our campuses are recognized in this Texas Monthly list of outstanding schools," Assistant Superintendent Ed Zachary said. "That's a wonderful reflection on our school district, our kids and our administrators," Zachary said "…We're getting stronger with every passing year. That's a signal honor for our schools and for our district." |
