From the Principal's Pen.....
Dear Abell Parents,

The 2006-2007 school year starts the 14th year for Abell Junior High School. Our proud tradition of winning spirit and strong competitive attitude is alive and well. We have the students that want to be first in academics, as well as athletics. Abell's teachers are top-notch and eager to educate your child. Overall, I look forward to this year and to all the possibilities for new adventures for our school. Come join us and remember "COME AND TAKE IT!"

Toni's Treasures .... A Note From Our President

THANK YOU THANK YOU

Thanks to all the parents, relatives and friends of students for joining PTA, and a special thanks to our membership chairman, Nancy Marks. You are helping us promote welfare of children, parent involvement and parent education by joining and by signing up to volunteer at the school with Deanne Causey.

Cindy Peyton has the office reception volunteers well organized, the library is staffed with volunteers, and PTA hosted a back to school lunch for Abell teachers and staff, planned by Kim Stowers, which everyone enjoyed --- We have had a busy and successful start to the school year with much more planned!

Thanks to Tracy McNutt and Patti Knighton fro all the hard work organizing for back to school, PE uniform and spirit shirt sales. Special acknowledgment goes to Linda and Dave Reddout for getting donations and planning our Open House Supper Event. It was really wonderful!

In addition to the committee chairmen, there are so many other volunteers who contribute to the success of these activities - you know who you are. We can't do it without you so another huge thanks!!!

Toni Smith, PTA President

YEARBOOK NEWS

The 2007 Aerie (Abell JHS yearbook) will be ordered by Direct Solutions method. All Abell students will fill out order forms on Thursday, October 19th during 2nd period. NO money is collected at that time. The forms are sent to the yearbook company (Jostens) which will send an invoice to the home. Parents may change anything on the invoice and send it back to Jostens with payment. Prior to ordering, a flyer will be sent home with each student indicating prices and options; parents need to discuss with their children what options they want ordered for the yearbook since ordering is completed and turned in during the first hour of school. A limited supply of extra yearbooks are ordered each year and sold on a first-come, first-serve basis at Abell in the library. The only way to be guaranteed a 2007 Abell yearbook with your options is to pay the invoice when it arrives in late October. (If you have any questions or problems, call Ms. Knight in the Abell Library @ 689-6216.)

Look Into the Library!!
The Texas Lone Star Reading List is a recommended reading list developed by public and school librarians from the Texas Library Association. The purpose of the list is to encourage students to explore a variety of current books which have been favorably reviewed by professional sources. Every year the Abell JHS Library runs a contest using the Lone Star list. The more books students read, the more prizes they may receive. Contest forms are available in the library; they are due back to the library by Friday, May 11, 2007. Let's make Abell students life-long readers! The more you read, the more you know!
