Standard Attire Policy No Logos On ANY Item

Welcome! Welcome to Abell Junior High School. This information has been provided to familiarize you and your student with the stand attire policy. Please read it carefully and review it with your child. It is our hope that this will be a successful and enjoyable year for your student. If you have any questions or concerns, please call 689-6200.

A. Shirts - Short or long sleeve polo-type, collared shirt, in solid navy blue, white or maroon.
- Short or long sleeve collared dress/oxford shirt in solid navy blue, white or maroon.
- T-shirts worn under clothing must be solid white only, including turtlenecks, body armor ....
- Spirit shirts (Abell team shirts-both athletic/academic or Abell-Lee logo) may be worn on Fridays with standard attire pants, skirts or shorts.

B. Sweater/Sweatshirts: - Fitted (not baggy, no zippers or hoods) Pullover or Cardigan sweaters in navy blue, white, or maroon.
- Sweaters, sweater vests and sweatshirts will be worn over a collared standard attire shirt. Once size larger rule applies.
- Turtlenecks are acceptable only under a collared shirt.

C. Pants/Shorts: - Fitted (not baggy or sagging) pants, twill fabric in navy blue or khaki, with straight leg or flare style.
- Not oversized (no more than 1 inch larger than the waist size).
- Pants and shorts with belt loops will be worn with a brown or black belt (not oversized for the student). No canvas belts.
- No pockets other than standard pant pockets.

D. Skirts/Jumpers: - Navy blue or khaki twill fabric.
- Worn with a standard attire shirt.

E. Miscellaneous: - Shirts are to be tucked in at all times while on campus.
- Pants should be hemmed to not drag the floor.
- The top of slits on skirts or jumpers should be no more than 5 inches above the knee.
- Shorts, pants, skirts, and jumpers will be hemmed. No cargo pockets or carpenter styles.
- No stretch material on pants, shorts, skirts, or jumpers.
- Pants, skirts, and shorts are to be worn at the waist at all times.
- Designer logos/names will not be permitted on any standard attire clothing (including socks and belts).
- Stickers/pins/other jewelry will not be worn on standard attire clothing.
- No draw string waist on pants, skirts, or shorts.
- Jackets are to be left in the student's locker upon arrival at school.
- No denim.
- No socks that are a distraction to the learning environment
- No shorts, skirts, or jumpers more than 3 inches above the knee, according to the MISD dress code.
- Students who violate the dress code are issued consequences through the Assistant Principals' Offices.
- If students are in violation of the dress code, they will be given the opportunity to correct the problem at school. If not corrected, the student will be assigned to ISS until the parent or designee brings the acceptable change of clothing to school.
- Any item not specifically addressed will be left to the discretion of the building Administrator, including socks that are distracting to the learning environment.

Availability of Standard Attire A. Local Stores: J.C. Penney, Dillard's, Mervyn's, Kohl's, Target, Wal-Mart, Old Navy, Dollar General, The Gap, Sears, Kids' Gap, and other stores |
B. Buyer Beware: Merchants may or may not be aware of the Abell Standard Attire Policy.

C. Most standard attire clothing can be found in clothing catalogs

Parents are ultimately responsible for making sure their children follow the Standard Attire Policy. Therefore, if you are in doubt or have any questions about the Standard Attire Policy, please call 689-6200 or come by the school and look at our Standard Attire display BEFORE YOU BUY.

ALL STANDARD ATTIRE CLOTHING WILL FOLLOW THE MISD STUDENT CODE OF CONDUCT DRESS CODE. |
At Abell Junior High School we strive to establish a dress code that teaches grooming and hygiene, instills self discipline, prevents disruption, avoids safety hazards, and teaches respect for authority. |
